Vistakon has announced that they will be gradually replacing the material in their 1-Day Acuvue TruEye contact lenses. The new silicone hydrogel material, narafilcon A, will comfortably fit more wearers, according to the company.
Unlike the current material, which is available in a single base curve, narafilcon A comes in both 8.5 and 9.0 base curves. This gives eye doctors the opportunity to easily fit a wider range of patients. The material also has increased oxygen transmissibility for more breathability and all-day comfort. The lenses still include the signature Hydraclear 1 Technology, which allows for more wettable, ultra smooth contacts.
Clinical trials found that 99 percent of people who wore the lenses with the old material had acceptable fits with the narafilcon A material as well. Those using the original 1-Day Acuvue TruEye contacts can continue wearing their current supply, but will need to be refitted by their eye care professional for the new version once it’s finished.
