Alcon’s U.S. launch of Dailies Total 1, their latest daily disposable lens, occurred at this year’s American Optometric Association (AOA) meeting.
The company reports that Dailies Total 1 are the first and only water gradient lenses on the market. These new daily disposables combine a silicone hydrogel material, delefilcon A, and high-tech LightStream Lens technology. They are soft lenses that feature a gradual transition from 33 percent water at their core to 80 percent water content on the surface of the lens.
“These lenses are 10 years in the making,” Jim Murphy, vice president/general manager of Alcon’s U.S. Vision Care Division, told press at the AOA launch. “They are a product of major breakthroughs in material development and manufacturing technology.”
The unique water gradient design of Dailies Total 1 makes the lenses very comfortable, and Alcon reports that 9 out of 10 wearers surveyed said the lenses were so comfortable they could not even feel them.
Dailies Total 1 contact lenses are currently only available for those who are nearsighted. They come in powers ranging from –0.50 to –10.00 diopters. If you’re interested in trying these new lenses, speak with your eye care professional.
